Job Summary

As a Senior Managing Software Engineer you will report to the Director of Engineering to build, coach and grow leaders of engineering teams contributing to our developer experience and productivity products. You will lead engineering teams creating an optimized coding experience allowing Allstate’s development community to move at unprecedented speeds. The ideal candidate will combine excellent technical and management skills to create value for our developers and product teams building upon our industry leading technology stack. This includes a deep understanding of integrated development environments (IDEs), cloud services, platform software, integration middleware and developer frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership in the design and development of developer experience (DX) product features to increase developer discoverability and productivity.
  • Determine resource needs, develop plans and track progress to those plans; resolve conflicts to ensure timely delivery of features.
  • Provide hands-on leadership to a growing team of software engineers and software engineering managers.
  • Develop your teams by hiring, mentoring, motivating and rewarding team members.
  • Leverage a strong understanding of product, design and business priorities to solve high impact, highly complex problems.
  • Continuous delivery of enhancements for new features and capabilities. This means excellent development practices, careful code architecture creating open and software defined systems, and an organization built around rapid releases.
  • Champion software engineering best practices, including XP, Agile methodology and Scrum framework.

Job Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in a software engineering leadership role, managing other leaders and individual contributors working on highly technical products in a fast-paced environment
  • Entrepreneurial with experience shipping modern software
  • Experience operating in an environment driven by KPIs where you had the accountability to determine the best course of action to meet your goals
  • Proven track record of building and managing high performing engineering teams
  • Clear passion for topics of technology, developer tools and an ability to identify possibilities to innovate in our product space
  • Ability to proactively anticipate problems and seek opportunities in both people management and code
  • Ability to analyze and interpret complex concepts
  • Understanding of and experience working in a development environment including experience with Agile or Agile XP
  • Ability to communicate complex and innovative concepts to a broad range of stakeholders
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Compensation Data

The minimum salary for this position is $130,000 to $171,000. The salary offered will be commensurate with experience.

The candidate(s) offered this position will be required to submit to a background investigation, which includes a drug screen.
